Baby Sham (Flipmode Squad) recording new album

Last week I started working on the new solo album for Baby Sham (Flipmode Squad). We recorded at the beautiful SoundTrax Recording Studios in Raleigh, NC. After getting hyped up on some Rick Ross, Sham starting working on the freestyle verses to his first track. After several beers, hits of hookah, and about four hours later we were done. Pictures and video here and here. Stay tuned to the blog for more updates...

HD Audio: Do we need it?

There has been a lot of talk recently in the audio world about HD audio and players. Take Neil Young's Pono player for example, which has raised a staggering $6.2 million on Kickstarter as of June 2014. Here is an article from Digital Trends discussing whether or not we need such equipment. I must say that I am personally torn on the issue. Although I'm traditionally an audiophile, I almost never record over a sample rate of 44.1 kHz. In a world of limited hard drive size, I can't justify doubling the size of a project for what is arguably a minuet or imperceivable improvement in quality (see this article). If we all had hardware that made the difference obvious (and we don't), then I would be 100% on board for recording at 88.2 kHz or higher. But until that happens, I'm going to stick with good ol' 44.1 kHz.

Us The Duo in Business Insider

The moment I met Michael Alvardo I knew he'd go far. Along with his wife Carissa, they form the super duo know as Us. Every time I turn around I see another article written about them. This time, from Business Insider. What makes the music of Us so popular? Maybe it's the clever lyrics. Or the chord progressions. But something tells me what really makes people connect with the music of Us is you can genuinely hear the love they have for each other in every song and see it in every YouTube video, Vine, or Instagram picture. And for some of us, that keeps hope alive. Hope for a better tomorrow, filled with love and acceptance, which I believe is the true message we can all get from of the music of Us. A good portion of the national attention for the duo is due to their covers on Vine but they have original music that deserves to shine as well. If you haven't checked Us out yet, do so.
